2009: 5-8 May (students); 1-4 Dec (adults)
2010: 20-23 April (students); 30 Nov - 3 Dec (adults)

Perth & Poverty ImmersionWhile we are all familiar with images of famine, starving children, and poverty in the developing world, there is also an underbelly of poverty even in the most affluent of western cities. The Perth and Poverty Immersion aims to expose participants to the urban poverty which exists here despite the beauty and richness of Perth. Participants will be confronted by homelessness, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, indigenous disadvantage, and the many other issues which lead to some of our society slipping through the cracks. Participants will have the opportunity to visit organisations and agencies who work with people on the margins.

Participants will ultimately be challenged to 'walk a mile' in the shoes of the poor and marginalsied, and to develop a personal response to these issues at our doorstep.
